Braves resume set with Phils in Dixie

Baseball Betting Lines

05/01/2007 - (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Atlanta Braves try to extend their early season success against the Philadelphia Phillies this evening when the clubs play the second game of their three-game set at Turner Field.

The Braves have won four straight over the Phillies this season that includes an season-opening sweep in Philadelphia. Atlanta also won its final game against the Phils last season.

Two of Atlanta's wins over Philadelphia earlier on the year came in extra innings, and the Braves avoided such an occurrence yesterday when Andruw Jones belted a game-ending three-run homer in the ninth inning to lift his club over the Phillies, 5-2.

The Braves kicked off a 10-game homestand with the win, while the defeat got the Phillies' 10-game road trip off to a bad start.

Jones, who entered the game a career 1-for-11 against Phillies reliever Antonio Alfonseca, ripped a 1-1 pitch deep into the stands in left to end the game.

Starter Tim Hudson continued to sparkle for the Braves, allowing only four hits and two runs in eight innings, while walking one and fanning one. Hudson wore a "JH" on his jersey in honor of Josh Hancock, the Cardinals reliever who died in a car crash early Sunday morning. Hudson and Hancock were teammates at Auburn University.

Reliever Mike Gonzalez (1-0) pitched a scoreless ninth to earn his first win of the season. Chipper Jones also homered for the Braves, who have won three of four.

Gonzalez will be one of the Braves who should see more late-inning action, as the club placed closer Bob Wickman on the 15-day disabled list yesterday due to upper back tendinitis. Atlanta activated pitcher Chad Paronto from the DL to replace him on the roster.

The loss wasted another strong effort by Jon Lieber, who scattered seven hits and two runs -- one earned -- while fanning two and walking a career-high six in seven innings. Alfonseca (1-1) was only able to get one out in the ninth before surrendering the game-ending blast. The Phillies have lost three of five since winning a season-high five straight.

Chase Utley and Ryan Howard each had an RBI, while Aaron Rowand left in the seventh inning with a stiff lower back.

Left-hander Cole Hamels aims to rebound for his worst start of the season last time out. Last Thursday, Hamels was tagged for four runs on eight hits with three walks in 5 1/3 frames against Washington to fall to 2-1 on the season with a 3.24 earned run average.

Hamels faced the Braves in his first start this season and threw seven shutout innings in a no-decision and is 0-2 with a 3.93 ERA in three career starts against Atlanta.

Fellow lefty Mark Redman counters for the Braves. Redman is still in search of his first win of the season, as he dropped his first three starts before getting a no-decision last time out against Florida. Redman was anything but stellar that day, getting touched for six runs on seven hits in just three innings of work -- lifting his ERA to 10.13 -- but was taken off the hook by Atlanta's offense in the 11-6 victory.

MySportsbook.com refunds all bets on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay from NFL week one.

(September 14) – Week one of NFL action saw three teams go scoreless for the first time since 1977.  Another four were unable to get a touchdown and almost half of the underdogs covered the spread. Those three teams saved bettors at MySportsbook.com from losing out completely, thanks to the company’s unique NFL Shutout Rule -- which ensures that if the team you backed goes scoreless, your wager is refunded.

Sportsbook refunded tens of thousands of dollars to customers who bet on Oakland, Green Bay and Tampa Bay, the three teams that stunk up the field so badly that their fans and backers never had a chance to get up from their couches and cheer.  In the spirit of the low scoring start to the season, odds makers at the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino have set odds on how many total shutouts there will be this season.

MySportsbook.com has posted updated sports betting lines for week two of the season.  Ben Roethlisberger’s health status is still questionable, so Willie Parker will try to lead Pittsburgh again as they travel to Jacksonville as a one point favorite.  After beating up on his little brother last week, Peyton Manning will look to lead the Colts to victory against Houston. Indianapolis is a whopping 13.5 favorite in the match-up.

Seattle, last year’s highest scoring team, showed the power of their defense with their gritty 9-6 win in Motown over the ravenous Lions.  They take their act back home to the comforts of Qwest Field where they will face the resurgent Arizona Cardinals.  The Seahawks are favored by a touchdown.
