03/03/2009 - Florham Park, NJ (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The New York Jets agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent safety Jim Leonhard and re-signed fullback Tony Richardson to a one-year deal on Tuesday.
Terms of Leonhard's contract were not disclosed, but according to the NFL Network, the deal is for three years. Richardson signed for $500,000.
Leonhard, a four-year pro, appeared in 16 games, including 13 starts for Baltimore last season. A key member of the No. 2 ranked Ravens defense in 2008, the Wisconsin product had 85 tackles, one interception and a sack, to go along with six passes defensed.
"I've liked Jim since his days at Wisconsin and was excited when we were able to bring him to Baltimore last season," said Jets head coach Rex Ryan, the defensive coordinator with Baltimore last year. "He was everything I expected him to be in 2008 when he bailed us out at safety after we had some injuries. He's a smart player that can get guys lined up in the secondary and was one of the best tacklers on that Ravens defense."
In 54 career games with 20 starts, Leonhard has 144 tackles and three picks. He has also returned 31 punts for an average of 10.5 yards and 11 kickoffs for a 22.6 yard average.
The 37-year-old Richardson, a 14-year veteran, has been used primarily as a blocking back over his career. Last season, he rushed for 65 yards on 10 carries in 16 games, that included seven starts.
For his career, the Auburn product has 1,666 yards on the ground on 417 carries and 15 touchdowns in 202 contests.

Kurt Warner to start, Matt Leinart to watch
Despite the debate that's swirling , Kurt Warner will remain the starting quarterback for the Arizona Cardinals, coach Dennis Green said today. The Arizona Cardinals are the +7 point underdog at online sportsbook MySportsbook.com for this Sunday's game.
Green's comment came in a statement released by the team following an ESPN report that Green decided that rookie Matt Leinart would replace Warner as starter for Sunday's game at Atlanta.
"Generally talking about the starting lineup is not something we do," Green told the AP. "However, given the speculation that was out there we want to make it clear. We're disappointed after last week, but we still expect to be a playoff football team and we fully expect Kurt Warner to be the quarterback that leads us. That has not changed."
