Struggling New York, New England clash at Gillette

05/28/2010 - Foxborough, MA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Red Bull New York won five of its first six games this season, but has lost three straight in MLS to spoil its good start.

New York has won outside MLS since its last league win May 1, beating Italian power Juventus 3-1 in a friendly and Colorado 3-0 in the U.S. Open Cup in the last week.

New York (5-4-0) has managed just one goal over its last three league matches, though, and will try to get back on track in league action Saturday at the New England Revolution (2-6-2).

Red Bull defender Carlos Mendes hopes the team can take momentum from its non- league success to Gillette Stadium.

"This is a good game for us," Mendes told MLSsoccer.com after the Juve win. "Good to win any game, but especially when you're playing a great team like we did."

After New York followed the Juventus win with the victory against Colorado to advance to the final 16 of the Open Cup, Hans Backe's club should be confident for the struggling Revolution.

New England is winless in seven straight, and has lost five of those games. In addition to failing to get results, the Revolution have been shutout in four matches during its current skid.

Shalrie Joseph returned from a long absence to make his second appearance this season last week against Toronto FC but New England lost 1-0 at BMO Field. New England has not won since it beat Toronto 4-1 on April 10.

Revolution coach Steve Nicol still felt as though his side played well against Toronto, but failed to take advantage of its opportunities.

"I thought we deserved something out of it, you know we lost the game, but it was our own doing," Nicol said. "We didn't pass the ball well and whenever we did we weren't dangerous but we didn't do it often enough."
